Wyoming lawmaker introduces doomsday bill

CHEYENNE ? Fearing an economic and political collapse nationwide, Wyoming lawmakers are moving ahead with legislation to deal with a doomsday scenario -- complete with plans to create?a state?currency.

?Things happen quickly sometimes ? look at Libya, look at Egypt, look at those situations,? the bill?s GOP sponsor State Rep. David Miller told the Star-Tribune in Casper. ?We wouldn?t have time to meet as a Legislature or even in special session to do anything to respond.?

According to the Star-Tribune, House Bill 85 would create a state-run ?government continuity task force,? to prepare Wyoming for potential disruptions in food and energy to a complete breakdown of the federal government.

Miller is also asking for the task force to look into creating its own state currency in the event the dollar loses value entirely.

The Wyoming House of Representatives advanced the legislation on Monday, but eliminated language calling for plans to implement its own military draft, army and acquire an aircraft carrier.

The bill now must pass two more House votes before it would head to the Senate for consideration.

?I don?t represent people in Illinois or New Jersey. I represent people in Wyoming,? Miller said. ?And I want them to be protected from any catastrophic events that may beset the rest of the country.?

Running Success

My wife and I want to get more exercise, but we?re so busy all the time that exercise gets put on the back burner. Often, we would start a regiment, but then slowly it would disappear. Lately, we?ve been sticking pretty well to our jogging routine, and I really enjoy it.

Instead of sitting in front of computers, my wife and I are out jogging, and enjoying some free quality time together. Don?t get me wrong, we still get plenty of computer time too! Do we still talk about businessy stuff? Of course, but we also enjoy the time outside in the scenery, and we goof off together too. While I end up extremely tired afterwards, I?m really starting to enjoy this part of our day.

Importance of Rest

I?ve written about Time Management before, Relaxation?and its affect on business success, and I also wrote about my botched attempt at a staycation. I know that rest is very important to be at your best. These activities take the focus off of building castles out of money, or castles out of work, and focus on building castles out of faith, love, and family.

Believe me, running isn?t at the top of my list of things I want to do after work, but I?m learning to enjoy it because it is bringing other good things to the table. It is great for me and my wife, as we get to do a tiring exercise together, and talk.

True Wealth

Today, true wealth is propagated on TV as having a bunch of nice things such as house and cars. People aren?t successful unless they?ve got certain sized rims, certain wrist watches, an iPhone, and a huge house. Unfortunately, we?re being misled when this is all that is portrayed as true wealth. If true wealth were a castle, and all that was focused on was making money, then the castle would simply be a single turret.

I believe that true wealth is a healthy balance of these things, and without it you?ll feel stressed and overwhelmed. When the focus is on one small part of the entire ?true wealth picture? you end up with an extreme imbalance. If examples are needed, then I can point to numerous ones including people like Bernard Madoff and Charles Ponzi (sounds familiar?). They focused on one part of true wealth (the financial part) and lost everything as a result.

How To Relax

What can you do to relax and balance out the other parts of true wealth? You don?t necessarily need to like what you do, like I said, I?m not a running fan, but it turned into a really enjoyable activity with my wife. Maybe it isn?t so much what you do, as much as who is with you. Start building true wealth by focusing on the other parts of your true wealth picture. Don?t forget about your faith and family.

What good is a bunch of money if you can?t enjoy it, and the people you?re with. Try to do some activities to help you relax and unwind from the high strung stresses or pursuing financial wealth. Do you like sports, and have some pals that might want to get together on the weekend to play? Also, don?t underestimate sitting outside for a while and just enjoying the quiet and the view.

While Britney Spears has set a blazing trail on Google+, as the first personal account to reach first 1 million, and then 2 million followers, when it comes to official Google+ pages, that accolade has just gone to British alternative rock band,?Coldplay.

When it comes to Google+ pages, the figure is slightly skewed as it includes the number of people who have +1?d the page as well. But according to ZoomSphere, a social media statistics site, Coldplay was the first page to cross the 1 million follower mark.

Since the end of January, the page has almost doubled in followers with a huge growth spurt in just this past month.

Elsewhere in social media, Coldplay has 5.8 million followers on Twitter, a far cry from the top 10 with Lady Gaga leading with over 19 million followers. On Facebook, the official Coldplay page has 18 million followers, which also trails far behind the top 10 list.

Next in line on Google+?s top 10 most followed pages?is yet another band. The official Red Hot Chili Pepper?s Google+ page has over 700,000 followers, followed by Pearl Jam, 106 and Park, Team Coco, ESPN, Sugarland, FC Barcelona, Train and Chelsea Football Club.

It?s interesting that out of the top 10 Google+ pages, four of them are mainstream bands, all of which fit into the alternative rock band genre, with not a single official Google-related page, or anything remotely geeky in sight for that matter. Google?s own official page has just over 170,000 followers, while the official Google+ page has just over 140,000.

Introduced in November, Google+ pages have been growing at an impressive rate, outpacing Twitter?s official brand accounts by about four times, but still lagging in comparison to Facebook.

Sparrows, blackbirds and the great tit are all birds known to sing at a higher pitch (frequency) in urban environments. It was previously believed that these birds sang at higher frequencies in order to escape the lower frequencies noises of the urban environment. Now, researchers at the University of Copenhagen and the University of Aberystwyth have discovered that besides noise, the physical structure of cities also plays a role in altering the birds' songs.

Urban birds sing differently and at a higher frequency than woodland birds in an effort to penetrate the wall of constant noise produced by traffic, machines and human activity. However, architecture also has a profound affect on their songs. The study findings have recently been published in the esteemed scientific journal PLoS One.

A new explanation

"Urban architecture is a crucial determinant of how urban birds sing". Noise amidst the urban landscape is typically composed of lower frequencies. Thus, one might jump to the conclusion that it would be smart for birds to distinguish their song by singing louder in order to drown out the competing noise. However, the recent study demonstrates that the noise explanation is incomplete, according to Professor Torben Dabelsteen of the Section for Ecology and Evolution at the University of Copenhagen's Department of Biology, one of the authors of the study.

The city's role in the song

Some researchers have never really bought into the idea that urban noise alone caused birds in the city to sing at higher frequencies. Either directly, because birds tried to sing at a higher tone and away from noise or indirectly, by the birds singing louder to drown out anthropogenic noise.

"Now, with the help of controlled sound recordings, we have shown that the higher frequencies in urban birds' songs are also transmitted across cities when there isn't any noise from traffic. This shows that the physical structure of cities must play a considerable role in the heightened frequencies," explains Torben Dabelsteen.

Structures and variations in the cityscape - houses, streets, open spaces and alleys - all serve to reflect and distort noise in differing ways, things that birds must take into account. Birds in the urban environment can easily spot one another, but must do what they can to reduce echoes from buildings and narrow streets in order to penetrate and communicate effectively.

High-pitched urban birds

Birds living beyond the urban landscape need not tweet away with full force. While the woodland's trees and abundant foliage also distort sound through reflection, they also serve to obstruct clear lines of sight. Therefore, rural birds may utilize these distortions to help judge distances and locate one another.

"City-dwellers can look forward to the lively song of birds in the coming spring, and even though a side effect of the urban birds' more powerful song is that they sing at a higher pitch, this is something that we are not typically able to hear," explains Dabelsteen.

At his Foreign Policy blog,?George Washington University professor?Marc Lynch points to a report he wrote for the Center for ?a New American Century arguing forcefully and persuasively against any kind of military intervention in Syria, including arming the opposition. He summarizes:

The first half of the report assesses in some depth each of the major military options which have been put on the table:? No Fly Zones, Tactical Air Strikes, Safe Areas, Armed Observers, and Arming the Opposition.? For each of the first four, I argue that the military means would not respond effectively to the violence, would be far more complicated than advocates acknowledge, and would likely soon pave the way to further escalation upon failure.

I spend?the most time arguing against?the currently fashionable idea of arming the Syrian opposition (about whom, as?Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Martin Dempsey?noted this weekend, little is really known). It is unlikely that arms from the outside would come close to evening the balance of power, and would only invite escalations from Syrian regime forces.? While advocates assume that a better-armed opposition would encourage a wave of defections from the Syrian army, it is just as plausible that growing militarization will harden the polarization in Syrian society and the resolve of Syrian troops.?? Those currently on the fence, disgusted with Assad but afraid of the future, could well be frightened back onto the side of the regime and move even further away from any kind of realistic political solution.

Lynch also argues for sustained economic sanctions and ?enhanced diplomacy? which includes ?constructing such a narrative ? of endless isolation and economic disaster with Asad, or a rapid return to international society with economic revival and political guarantees without him? in order to end the crisis. I can?t endorse Lynch?s take fully, but his arguments against military intervention are insightful.

The link he provided in the above excerpt directs the reader to his previous post which focused fully on why not to arm the opposition. Not only would arming the opposition escalate overall violence, it would also further fragment the already disorganized local militias and its ultimate failure would merely be an invitation for full scale military intervention and even regime change. Also, as we saw in Libya, ?fighting groups will rise in political power, while those who have advocated nonviolence or who advance political strategies will be marginalized.? Lastly, both sides are committing serious crimes, albeit disproportionately, and for god?s sake American taxpayers do not need to be supporting any more human rights abusers.

To me, the broader regional implications of intervening in Syria are enough to invalidate such proposals completely. For those rabid interventionists in Washington, acting against the Assad regime is really just an opportunity to eliminate Iran?s closest strategic ally. Again, war for hegemony in the Middle East would have the deceitful pretext of humanitarian intervention.

I am looking for horror stories to compare with different companies? Did you ever sign up for an at home business that did not work? Was it just not for you or was it just bad business?

I?m not sure why you are looking for horror stories.
I have worked a few home businesses and found that if you do your homework, you know what you are getting into.
I had one experience with a phone card company that went under 5 months after I signed up and signed up a lot of others. That was my horror story because of lost credibility.
I have found that if you stay ahead of the baby boomers you cannot go wrong.
Gone are the days where people are looking to fill their homes with products that they buy from their own store, because even though it was an excellent concept in it?s time, the time has now passed. People no longer want to go to a bunch of home parties either. I?m not saying all people don?t want that, I?m talking about the majority here. At one time, it was a great escape for housewives where they could socialize and buy things for their home.
Now, most of the boomers are empty-nesters who are either over 50 or fast approaching that landmark. They are looking for health and anti-aging. It is fast becoming a trillion dollar industry.
It?s what I do now, and I have never had a company grow as fast as this one. They have ironed out all the usual obstacles associated with network marketing and provided the tools to make it easier than ever.

I really can?t think of one thing that I don?t enjoy about this business, particularly the income.

That?s okay. That?s normal.

But success in relationships ? romantic and otherwise ? have a lot to do with proper communication. In fact, most relationship problems are caused by poor communication.

Here are the top communication issues in romantic relationships and how to work through them:

The Problem:?Misunderstanding words and actions. It?s really easy to misinterpret your partner?s words, emails, gestures, and actions to mean something other than what he or she intended. We?re all human ? it happens.

The Solution: Don?t immediately jump to conclusions. Instead of assuming you know what the other is thinking, ask for clarification. Continue asking for clarification until you understand what your partner is really saying.

The Problem:?You don?t talk enough. In a long-term relationship, most of us eventually hit a point where we feel we don?t communicate much any more. We don?t hang out. We have our routines (wake up, shower, dress, go to work, come home), and most don?t involve the other person as much as they should.

The Solution: There?s a simple fix for not communicating enough:?recognizing that you?re no longer communicating like you once did and talking more.?Create some alone time to carve out for just the two of you.

The Problem: You?re avoiding certain topics with your partner. Perhaps this is the reason that you?re not talking to one another anymore. Maybe you?re upset with your partner. Either way, you don?t feel like discussing it, so instead, you clam up and say nothing. Your walls go up as a way of avoiding the issue.

The Solution: You?re not benefiting your relationship in any way by avoiding problems. Instead of retreating and putting up big walls, take a long hard look at the issues and face them together. This way, you can work together to come up with a solution.

The Problem: You need to be right. We?ve all had those times when we couldn?t back down from an argument. We?re right, we know it, and we have to prove it. So we pick a fight (or continue to beat a dead horse) until we feel we?ve won.

The Solution: Being right isn?t as important as having open lines of communication. Being willing to see things from another point of view may not change how you feel, but it does give you the incredible opportunity to learn.

On average, people are chipper when they wake up and become grouchy as the day wears on. This pattern holds true on weekends, too, but is delayed by about two hours?a trend confirmed in tweets from the United Arab Emirates, where the workweek is Sunday through Thursday. The data suggest that sleep schedules strongly influence mood cycles. The duo at Cornell University who carried out the research, published last September in Science, say that the rising popularity of online social media is allowing scientists to study human behavior in surprising new ways.

The Department of Natural Resources? 2012 Indiana Recreation Guide, which provides information on state parks, reservoirs, state park inns, fish & wildlife areas, state forests, state historic sites and other DNR properties, is now available free online at dnr.IN.gov (look for a link to the 2012 Indiana Recreation Guide under ?Quick Links?).

Local retail outlets and state parks, reservoirs and other DNR properties also have free printed copies available.

Free printed copies of the guides will also be available at the Indianapolis Boat Sport & Travel Show, Feb. 17-26, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

Annual entrance passes for state parks and reservoirs can be purchased in person at the gatehouses or property offices during business hours, at the Indiana Government Center South in Indianapolis, or at innsgifts.com.

Indiana resident passes are $36 or $18 for individuals 65 years old or older. Annual passes for vehicles with out-of-state license plates are $46. Normal daily gate fees for residents at most properties are $5 per vehicle. Prices for the passes and for the daily entry fees have remained the same since 2006. This year the new SPR Go! program provides discount packages for entrance passes, camping and other property activities. Private funeral planned for Whitney Houston (Reuters)

NEWARK, New Jersey (Reuters) ? A private funeral for Whitney Houston will be held on Saturday in her hometown of Newark, New Jersey, at the same modest New Jersey church where the R&B vocalist honed her singing skills on her way to becoming one of the biggest pop stars of her generation.

The invitation-only service will be held at noon (1700 GMT) at the New Hope Baptist Church, where Houston once sang gospel in the choir growing up, a family spokeswoman said on Tuesday. The spokeswoman did not rule out the possibility of a separate public memorial service later.

The Houston family thanked fans for their prayers but wanted a private service, funeral director Carolyn Whigham told reporters outside the Whigham Funeral Home where the singer's body was resting. She said there would be "nothing for the public," only the private funeral service.

"It was the family's decision," Whigham told reporters. "They have shared her for 30-some years with the city, with the state, with the world. This is their time now for their farewell to their daughter, mother."

The body of the beloved singer was flown to New Jersey late on Monday from Los Angeles. Dozens of fans lit candles and gathered outside the funeral home to greet the golden hearse carrying Houston's body on Monday night under tight security.

On Tuesday balloons and cards paid tribute to the pop star outside the church, a simple, red-brick house of worship on a quiet backstreet near downtown Newark where Houston began grabbing the limelight as a soloist in a gospel choir in the 1970s.

Her death on Saturday in a Beverly Hills hotel stunned the music world, her fans and her family. She was found underwater in a bathtub in a Beverly Hills hotel, according to police. They have declined to speculate on the cause of her death at age 48.

An autopsy was completed on Sunday, and a final death report is pending completion of an official investigation and toxicology reports that may take weeks.

Houston hails from gospel and soul music royalty and many stars are likely to attend her funeral service. She is the cousin of Dionne Warwick and the daughter of Cissy Houston, who backed up Aretha Franklin. The 69-year-old Franklin is her godmother.

The singer rose to fame on early hits such as "Saving All My Love For You" and "How Will I Know." Her powerful, soaring voice was later marred by battles with cocaine and alcohol.

Houston died on the eve of the music industry's Grammy Awards. Because of her admitted drug and alcohol abuse, including a stint in rehab as recently as May 2011, speculation arose that she might have died of a drug overdose.

"Ms. Houston was apparently discovered in the bathtub by a member of her personal staff," who called hotel security, Beverly Hills Police Lieutenant Mark Rosen said on Monday. She was pulled from the bathtub, but when paramedics arrived "she was unconscious and unresponsive," he said.

The LA coroner's office confirmed prescription medication was found in Houston's room but Rosen declined comment on the prescription drugs or the condition of Houston's body. Detectives have sealed their inquiry, he said.

The singer's brother-in-law, Billy Watson, has dismissed suggestions that the singer may have committed suicide, saying "She wouldn't have done that to her daughter."

Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, 18, was in Los Angeles when her mother died.

The singer was photographed partying in Los Angeles leading up to her death and had planned to attend an annual pre-award party hosted by record producer and mentor Clive Davis on the night she died.

Her personal troubles, including a tumultuous 15-year marriage to singer Bobby Brown that ended in divorce in 2007, contradicted the innocent, fun-loving image that propelled her to stardom in the mid-1980s with early hits such as "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)."

Her friend and singer, Chaka Khan, told CNN that Houston only held herself responsible for any personal troubles: "She was a strong-minded girl and I can't say it was anybody's fault ... If you want to get high, you get high." As a teenager in the 1970s and 1980s, Houston worked for Khan as a studio backup singer among other performers.

She won six Grammys and more than 400 other awards in a 25-year career that also saw her star in such blockbuster films as "The Bodyguard". Her 1992 hit cover single of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" from "The Bodyguard" soundtrack was the highlight of her career that blossomed between 1985 and 1992.

Aretha Franklin honored her goddaughter at a private concert on Monday night held in North Carolina, asking the crowd to pray for Houston's family and singing a version of "I Will Always Love You", according to a local TV station.

The decision to hold a private funeral was in contrast to the public memorial service that was held for pop superstar Michael Jackson after his 2009 death and broadcast live around the world.

But similar to Jackson, Internet sales of Houston's songs have surged following her death. "I Will Always Love You," was the No. 1 download on iTunes on Tuesday, just ahead of Grammy winner Adele's "Rolling in the Deep."

Her albums, "Whitney: The Greatest Hits," "The Bodyguard" and her debut album, "Whitney Houston," were also among the top 20 selling albums on iTunes.
