Lyons

The High Street presents Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen on Friday, September 16. A man of many hats whose music combines power, volume, crispness, clarity, timing, taste, passion, and drive, Solivan is joined by Mike Munford on five-string banjo, Stefan Custodi on upright bass, Rob Ickes on dobro, and Lincoln Meyers on flat-picking guitar, in a bluegrass tour-de-force. Opening the evening is the Rorey Carroll Band, whose songs bridge American folk and alterative country/bluegrass. The second annual Plein Aire art show and sale, Canvases of Light, will take place on September 17 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Lyons Farmette, 4121 Ute Hwy. Plein Aire is a French expression for ?in the open air,? and this event is to celebrate Colorado?s spectacular natural surroundings that have inspired so many artists. The Lyons Farmette, Boulder County Arts Alliance, and the Lyons Arts and Humanities Commission have collaborated to sponsor an entertaining and interactive art event for all ages. Promptly at 3:30 pm there will be a ?quick draw? in which the participating artists have one hour to produce a piece of art which will then be auctioned off ?wet? to the highest silent auction bidder.

Mintze Wu, world-class violinist and celebrated traditional fiddler, will perform live as a contributing volunteer with the LAHC. A nominal $5.00 entry fee provides access to the

The Stone Cup Cafe continues the exhibition of photographs of Tim Benko through September. Tim Benko presents scenic images and high-contrast black and white images from a series entitled PhotoGrass, a collection of images from Telluride, Folks, and Rockygrass. Painter Lucy Burleson will display her pastels of landscapes from Colorado, France, Mexico, and around the country. She also expresses her art in the medium of oil and acrylic.

Saturday night music at Stone Cup starts up on September 24 with John McKay.? McKay ?blends the deeply personal insights of a man immersed in nature, places of the past and love with the political observations of a protest singer driven by the passion and commitment of a rock and roller. Prairie Scholars will take the stage on October 1. A couple of darkly poetic Texas folk playing driving, haunting rock melodies, the Prairie Scholars document their musical journey out of the flatlands and into the shadowy world in search of a home. Music of Chicago-based folk duo, Small Potatoes, will be heard on October 15. Self-described as Celtic to cowboy, Jacquie Manning and Rich Prezioso have been praised by Dirty Linen Magazine as ?polished, inventive, and entertaining.? Attention! Auditions for world-premiere, family-friendly Christmas musical, The Ride with Santa, will take place on September 30 and October 1. This fun, rollicking musical, written by Debi Stevenson, will be presented at the Longmont Theatre in December. Boulder

The Boulder Bach Festival opens with two chamber music concerts on September 23 in Denver and September 25 in Boulder, featuring J.S. Bach?s Brandenburg Concertos No. 3, 5, and 6, performed by the newly formed Boulder Bach Festival Players under the newly appointed music director Rick Erickson. The September 23 concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew?s Episcopal Church, 2015 Glenarm Pl., Denver. The September 25 concert will take place at 4 p.m. at St. John?s Episcopal Church, 1419 Pine St. The Boulder Bach Festival will continue its season subscription concerts on February 25, 29, and March 3. CU Presents brings to the audience authentic Taiko drumming on October 11, with dynamic young men and women of Yamato reinterpreting the ancient Japanese tradition. Hailing from Nara, Japan, Yamato returns to the Artist Series by popular demand. The Boulder Dinner Theatre, 5501 Arapahoe Ave., presents CATS now playing through September 24. Based on the universally popular poetry of T.S.
