The nations weather (AP)

Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, October 13, 2011.

A trough of low pressure digging across the East will support more active weather in the eastern half of the nation on Thursday, while high pressure provides calm conditions to the West.

The cold front over the nation 1/4's mid-section will push eastward into the Upper Great Lakes, Eastern Valleys, and the Southeast. Meanwhile, high pressure in the Northeast push further into the Canada Maritimes as low pressure moves up the Eastern Seaboard. This system will bring another batch of rain to the Mid-Atlantic, the Appalachians, and the Northeast. Areas of New York and southern New England will see the brunt of this precipitation as the system progresses northward.

In the West, a building ridge of high pressure will prevail over the region with warm and dry conditions. Temperatures in the Desert Southwest will really heat up today. Highs in this area will climb into the 90s and lower 100s. Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday have ranged from a morning low of 24 degrees at Yellowstone, Wyo. to a high of 100 degrees at Fullerton, Calif.
