Pet cat found tied with whiskers burned off in Hull street | This is Hull ...

A WOMAN has spoken of her shock after her pet cat was found tied up and doused in fuel.

Nicola Hardy, 26, said she was devastated after one-year-old Felix was tied up inside the sleeve of a jacket, which was covered in fuel.

Felix?s whiskers had also been burnt off.

RSPCA inspector Karen Colman said Felix was ?lucky to be alive? after the attack, which is being investigated by police.

Miss Hardy, of east Hull, said: ?I feel disgusted that somebody could do this to an innocent, harmless animal.

?It makes me feel sick knowing someone has taken my cat, who we love dearly, and been so cruel to him.

?I was so shocked when I found out what had happened. It is awful.?

Felix was found alive and otherwise unhurt by a dog walker in a field near Buckland Close, Longhill, just hours after he went missing on October 24.

He was tied inside the sleeve of the fuel-soaked blue hooded jacket. A pair of gloves, which had also been doused in fuel, were found in the jacket pocket.

He was identified through a microchip.

Miss Hardy and her partner, Carl Dickinson, have had Felix since January. He had been taken in by the RSPCA after being left for long periods of time by his previous owners.

Miss Hardy said: ?He has had a really lucky escape but we are still devastated this happened.

?He is such a friendly and trusting cat that he will go with anybody.

Because he was left so much when he was younger, he just loves company.

?Since he came back home, he has been a bit jumpy and he hasn?t shown any inclination to go back outside.

?We just want to know who did this. If they have done it once, they could do it again and we wouldn?t wish this on anybody.?

Ms Colman said the RSPCA is keen to find those responsible.

She said: ?What happened to Felix was extremely cruel and the cat has had a really lucky escape.

?When I first heard there was a cat that had been tied in a bag, I was expecting it to be dead.

?Somebody has obviously picked the cat up and, what is really sad is the cat is so friendly that it was an easy target.

?It isn?t clear why they did this ? we believe perhaps they were disturbed and maybe they had more severe intentions.

?At the moment, we have no idea who has done this and why. The jacket the cat was wrapped in is quite distinctive, so we hope somebody will know something about that.

?We would very much like to know who did this so we can make sure it doesn?t happen to any other cats.?

Anyone with information should call the RSPCA on 0300 1234999 or Humberside Police on 101.
